the pattern is a detail of a wood inlay. it was given to me by the artist predrag nesković in belgrade this summer.
it shows a young man walking along a country road, with mountains in the background and a sign saying “wiena 24km”. the way the mountains are drawn has a slightly japanese feel to it, and judging by the signpost, they most likely show an area called “semmering”, where i am currently working on a project.
Predrag Nesković, who we introduced to Edwina years ago, is a Serbian painter who also makes quite unique fashion pieces and bizarre jewelry from parts of Barbie dolls. He always asks how Edwina is when I see him.

この模様は木象嵌のディテールだ。この夏、ベオグラードでアーティストのペドラグ・ネスコヴィッチからもらった。背景には山があり、「Wiena 24km」と書かれた標識が立っている。山の描き方に少し日本的な雰囲気があり、標識から判断すると、私が現在プロジェクトに取り組んでいる「センメリング」という地域を示しているのだろう。
数年前にエドウィナに紹介したペドラド・ネスコヴィッチはセルビアの画家で、バービー人形のパーツを使ったかなりユニークな ファッション作品や奇妙なジュエリーも作っている。彼はエドウィナに会うといつも「元気 ?」
